A Heartbeat Away* by Alan Acuff. Nothin’ fancy here. Just a man and his guitar. Acuff has a rich soothing voice and he picks just fine too. This is a nice late night album. My only complaint here is that only four of the 12 cuts are original tunes. Acuff, judging from the evidence here, is a fine songwriter.

I booked Al to open for Bonnie Raitt at a summer concert series that I produced, Music in the Pines. We had 3500 people at an outdoor setting. Alan was the first artist on stage. His relaxed disposition and his expertise in his craft were quite obvious. Alan Acuff is a gifted performer.

Alan Acuff has fast become a favorite in our small community. His music gives our guests the variety and quality that they are always in search of when patronizing our Byron T.’s Saloon. Our patrons always enjoy the down home flavor and comfortable style of Alan’s music.

This is timeless Americana, invoking the view from the open door of a boxcar on the prairie, rolling past small towns, ghost towns, industrial back roads, dusty roads to nowhere. Where the lights of a cozy cafe glow at the  crossroads, that’s where you’ll find this music. It’s from where we come from.
